Sustainable Cleaning

Sustainable Cleaning

We can all do a little more to help the environment, and being greener in our home and work life can have a positive impact on all of us. Eco-friendly office cleaning promotes a healthier workspace, reduces exposure to harmful chemicals, lowers operating costs, enhances corporate image, and contributes to a greener environment.

At DF Williams we are committed to delivering high-quality cleaning services whilst, at the same time, helping our planet by moving to greener and more sustainable cleaning practices.  We work closely with our suppliers to not only use more natural and renewable resources in our cleaning products, but also to use less plastic and more recycled materials in our packaging and cleaning equipment.

Here are some examples of the steps that we have already taken to improve the environment:

Eco-Friendly Cleaning products

Using eco-friendly office cleaning products can be just as effective as traditional ones. Many green cleaning products are specifically formulated to deliver powerful cleaning results while being safe for both people and the environment.

We already use eco-friendly cleaning products for over 60% of our customers, opting for plant-based or biodegradable alternatives instead of harsh chemicals that can harm both human health and the environment.  By spring 2024 we aim to be using eco-friendly cleaning products on every one of our 200+ customer sites.

Sustainable Cleaning Equipment

Sustainable office cleaning equipment, such as energy-efficient appliances and microfiber technology, helps minimize resource consumption, improve cleaning efficiency, and reduce environmental impact.

For instance, not only are our vacuum cleaners now being built using components from recycled hoovers, but they also save energy by using 40% less electricity than before.

Switching to Electric Vehicles

There are millions of cars on the roads globally. Unfortunately for the climate, the internal combustion engine is one of the biggest single contributors to global warming.

Electric vehicles have zero tailpipe emissions, which helps to improve air quality, and produces much lower carbon dioxide emissions than a petrol or diesel equivalent.  As part of our own net zero strategy, we’re in the process of changing all our company vehicles from diesel to electric.  So far, we’ve converted over 50% of our vehicle fleet to zero emission EVs.

Employing Local Staff

DF Williams takes great pride in employing local people to service local businesses in Oxford and throughout Oxfordshire.  Over 93% of our staff live within Oxford City limits.  This not only supports the local economy, but also reduces the distance our employees need to travel to get to work, which helps to lower our carbon footprint.  We also encourage our staff to adopt car sharing wherever it is feasible to do so.
